Every April, schools of tarpon or "silver kings" start moving through Boca Grande Pass, bringing out swarms of anglers from around the world. Since the
first of these silver monsters (some reach 300 lb.) was landed in 1878,
Boca Grande has been synonymous with trophy fishing.
In early July, the Chamber

of Commerce sponsors ."The World's Richest Tarpon Tournament"The entrance fee is $3,500 per boat with a limit of 60 boats. The winning angler takes home $100,000. Since tarpon are essentially inedible, the fish are photographed and released.
